The 13th Annual Neglected Tropical Disease NGO (NNN) Conference took place from Tuesday 13th - Thursday 15th September 2022 in-person in Kathmandu, Nepal and online.
The 2022 NNN conference theme, NTDs in health systems - innovate, integrate, & empower, aligns with Pillar 2 of the 2021-2030 road map for NTDs and invites us to find innovative solutions to collaborate and mutualise resources across NTD and other sectors; integrate NTD priorities within health systems; and ultimately empower national programmes for sustained ownership of planning, implementation, and person-centered approaches to service delivery.

For the first time, Nepal to host Global Conference on Neglected Tropical Diseases from Sep 13-15 Organised by the Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) NGO Network, this conference in Kathmandu will see NTD practitioners, government leaders, public health physicians, researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders from over 50 countries deliberating on challenges and solutions for NTD elimination.

The 2022 NNN Conference was held in-person at the Yak & Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal with virtual components on a platform to be decided.
Each part of the conference, whether in-person or virtual, was designed for the NNN audience to drive engagement, connection, and action. Today’s technology makes it much easier to host a conference that is as engaging online as it is in-person. It was great to see delegates in Kathmandu, and those who joined us virtually, explored conference content, connected with the NTD community, and shared their expertise.

NTD Innovation Prize
The winners of the NTD Innovation Prize will be announced at the NNN 2022
The 2021 Prize included two $20,000 awards for winning proposals from two domains: data and analytics, and diagnostics. The application process drew 30 applicants from 15 countries, yielding three finalists in each domain. Once again, American Leprosy Missions partnered with Novartis and announced the winners during the closing of the annual NNN conference. Dr. Amber Barton and Dr. Martin Holland from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine won the data and analytics award. The diagnostics domain winner was Dr. Temitope Agbana from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Additionally, a $1000 Popular Choice Award went to Dr. Anthony Ablordey from the University of Ghana’s Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, based on online voting through ntdinnovation.org.

This meeting is an important opportunity to highlight the urgent need to bring health equity to the remaining one billion people who continue to be affected by neglected tropical diseases.
