Communications Internship opportunity

The NNN is looking for an intern to support communications activities that promote the work and members of the NNN. No direct communications experience is needed but active knowledge on how to use social media channels like Twitter and Facebook is essential. 

The intern will work with the NNN Communications Task Team, which is led by two Co-Chairs and support a range of activities including live social media activity during the NNN annual conference 7 – 9 September 2021, support the delivery of a NNN conference report, NNN website maintenance including updating the website content on a rolling basis and contribute to the work of the NNN Communications Task Team through discussion, sharing of ideas and active participation. 

The NNN is looking for an intern who can contribute 1.5-2 hours a week from August 2021 – January 2022. The period of the internship can be extended if this is of interest to the candidate. This role is currently voluntary and is therefore unpaid. Training will be provided on all aspects of the role (such as website maintenance, content development and scheduling)

This advert is open to any NNN organizational member with the capacity to host a communications intern, or allocate time from within an existing communications staff member. This advert is also open to university undergraduates and graduates looking to gain further experience in working with the NTD community. 

The ideal candidate is:

  • Someone interested in the field of neglected tropical diseases, global health and sustainable development. 
  • Have an active knowledge and understanding of the strategic use of social media platforms in communicating ideas to a wide audience. 
  • Be skilled at condensing technical information into bitesize communications for a public audience. 
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with a wide range of NTD and global health experts and stakeholders through the task team. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Update the NNN website on a rolling basis to ensure maintenance of the website is up to date. 
  • Contribute to the planning, development and implementation of social media toolkits for Twitter and Facebook. 
  • Apply communication skills to engage diverse audiences on technical topics and nuanced insights on neglected tropical diseases through social media. 

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor or Master’s degree in an area connected to public health, global health, NTDs or International Development. 
  • Proficiency in using Facebook and Twitter; website maintenance experience is helpful but not essential as training will be provided. 
  • Proficiency in common scripting and query languages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a wide range of people across a global task team.
  • Ability to communicate ideas to any audience.
  • Knowledge of French would be an advantage.
