Amref Health Africa

Established and registered in 1957, Amref Health Africa is Africa’s largest indigenous, international health NGO. Amref Health Africa’s vision is “lasting health change in Africa”, which we believe is possible when communities are empowered with knowledge; skills and the means to maintain their good health and break the cycle of poor health and poverty. The organization has programs in over 17 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa, including Senegal in the West. In addition, we reach people in over 35 countries in Africa through our training, consultancy and clinical outreach programs.

To achieve its mission, Amref implements activities around key priority areas, namely: Maternal Health, Child Health, Fighting Diseases, Water and Sanitation, Clinical and Diagnostic Services, Research and Advocacy. Amref strives to deliver an integrated package of interventions with the potential to sustainably impact the health of communities, especially for women and children. We capitalize on quality of services, high impact and replicable and scalable activities. Amref approach emphasizes the developing, testing and evaluating methodologies and systems that are appropriate, affordable and effective. Amref’s major targets are vulnerable groups, including women, children and the poor, marginalized communities in hard-to-reach areas.
